The Second Semester Begins!

Benjamin Franklin once said, "Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement and success have no meaning." As we enter the second semester, we reflect on the growth and progress our students have already made and chart our path toward continual growth. We impress upon our students the importance of growth and progress. We also challenge our students to "Level Up" on their assessments through study and practice. We will begin our celebrations for student growth this Friday for our 3rd through 5th grade students. The numbers of students that "Leveled Up" are as follows:
3rd grade: 128 students
4th grade: 141 students
5th grade: 135 students
Total: 404 students

Narcoossee Elementary School’s Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) has agreed to support the purchase of pizza for the amazing number of students that have earned a pizza party for "Leveling Up" or showing required growth from FAST PM1 to FAST PM2! We want to take this time to thank our PTO for always supporting the growth initiatives we create for our students! Students who made growth on the FAST STAR assessments in kindergarten through second grades will also be celebrated the following week. All students who made expected growth will receive pizza and a certificate to honor their accomplishment.

We are proud of the work we have done thus far, but we have the remainder of the year to go! As we enter Days 91–95 of our 180‑day school year, we arrive at a critical midpoint—one that requires purposeful reflection and renewed focus. The second semester is not about adding more initiatives; it is about deepening learning, strengthening instructional practice, and ensuring that student outcomes are solidified. Thank you for your support.

We challenged our students to continue to practice their skills using the Progress Learning platform. Students were to complete both ELA and Math challenges (5th grade had an additional science challenge) at 70% or higher accuracy to be recognized and receive Kona Ice!! We are tallying our results. Challenge winners will receive an invitation to get their Kona Ice. Stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks. Thanks again to all families that supported completion of this challenge.

AVID Theo

Narcoossee Elementary School integrates Advancement Via Individual Determination or AVID in all classrooms. AVID integrates college readiness skills, like organization, writing, inquiry, collaboration, and reading (WICOR), directly into all elementary classrooms to build a strong foundation for academic success, fostering a growth mindset, and closing achievement gaps early. It focuses on teaching students essential skills such as structured notetaking, self-advocacy, higher-level thinking, and goal setting, preparing them for future college and career opportunities through consistent strategies across all subjects and grade levels. We are extending our AVID Awareness Contest to January 31st! Any family that submits a picture of your child’s "AVID Theo" with a background that represents AVID will be entered into a drawing for gift cards or other prizes.
Congratulations to our first winners (pictured below):
Cole Morales (4th grade) – $10 Amazon Gift Card
Amelia Partain (Kindergarten) – $10 Dairy Queen Gift Card

Remember, AVID Theo must be in the picture! Examples of AVID backgrounds include:
  • A college banner or pennant background
  • Someone in the military or a veteran
  • AVID Theo in a college or career setting
  • Creative ways to showcase AVID strategies
Send your submissions to Leslie.Lebron@osceolaschools.net.
Thank you for helping us promote AVID and inspire our students to dream big!

Academic Corner

It was back to business our first week back from Winter Break. Our teachers were reinforcing high impact strategies in their classrooms. Please see some examples of these strategies from some of our first-grade classrooms. I am so proud of the work and strategies our teachers are implementing to prepare our leaders for future success!
