Leader in Me Lighthouse Training

Narcoossee Elementary School is a Lighthouse School recognized by Franklin Covey Education. We are working on tightening up our Leader in Me processes at NCES. This week we were able to have our Leader in Me coach, Josh Wycuff, come to help our Lighthouse team develop a plan for some resetting and refocusing! The focus and work we do for ourselves and our students as it relates to LIM is so important. We must remember the hard work and dedication it took to achieve the Lighthouse School status and do what it takes to maintain this status.

5th Grade Service Project

Part of our Leader in Me initiative is to expose our students to ways to be leaders in our community. Our grade levels engage in service projects throughout the year. Our 5th grade leaders will be sponsoring their November giveback. This project will support the Osceola County Food Friends. This will be our giveback to the community this year in fifth grade. They are collecting non- perishable food items starting tomorrow November 7th through November 20th. Please help our fifth-grade leaders support families in need this holiday season!

November Habit Homework

As a reminder, our November Family Habit Homework came home last week. For November, families will focus on sharing their Family WIGs (Wildly Important Goals) and leading measures (Habit #2: Begin with the End in Mind). Please find information about the 4DX Challenge below, along with some guiding questions to help families create a meaningful Wildly Important Goal.

Our Family Action Team WIG for the November Habit Homework is to have 25% of our school participate by completing and returning the homework by Friday, November 21st.

New Resource for Students!!!

Your child now has access to the valuable online tool, Progress Learning, at school. Fun and easy to use, Progress Learning provides many features that will help your child succeed. Throughout the year, they will be able to access a variety of tests, practice questions, games, and many other activities designed to keep your child actively learning.

How to Help Your Student Use This Resource

To help your student use this resource:
  • Go to app.progresslearning.com (or your child can log in through ClassLink).
  • Log in to the site using the school's Account ID and your child's username and password
  • Look for any assignments from your child's teacher. Weekly assignments appear on your student's assignments by clicking on the "Assignments" menu option on the left side of the page.

Students Monitor Their Progress

Students can monitor their progress by clicking on "My Study Plan" on the left side of the page and choosing a subject area. Progress Learning's Galaxy Star system will indicate mastery by standard. Students will have individualized learning paths within Focus Areas based on their performance in Standards.

Academic Corner: Student Engagement Strategies

Student engagement strategies include active learning techniques like discussions, group activities, and games, as well as personalizing lessons with real-world connections and student interests. Active and interactive strategies include (but are not limited to):
  • Asking open-ended questions that encourage critical thinking and discussion.
  • Incorporating group work with clear roles to foster collaboration, such as "Think-Pair-Share" or "Jigsaw" activities where students become experts and teach their peers.
  • Using games and gamification with elements like points, leaderboards, and badges to motivate students.
  • Integrating movement into lessons through activities like gallery walks or learning stations to keep students physically and mentally active.
