Cereal September is coming to an end soon but there is still time to bring in those final boxes of cereal! Please keep those boxes coming!! On 10/2 all cereal boxes will be placed outside the classroom doors, so that the domino train can be built the morning of 10/3. Teachers are keeping the counts updated on their spreadsheets! Thank you to Avir's parents who brought in 20 boxes of cereal to represent kindergarten Ms. Maldonado's class!!! We will be mentioning other contributions and final totals in the next digest. Thank you!

Howl-O-Ween Service Project

We continue our push to build leaders at Narcoossee Elementary School through our service projects in each grade level. As first grade is finishing up their cereal box collection for the food shelters in our area, second grade will be starting their Howl-O-Ween service project October 1st. We will be collecting new, unopened bags of dog and cat food, unopened treats, and toys for the animals at the Osceola County Animal Shelter for our giveback. We cannot wait to see what we are able to do for the animal shelters in our community!

Academic Corner: Learning Walk

At or around every quarter, our school district conducts what is called a learning walk. This is a time for our district academic resource personnel, school instructional leadership, and our district elementary director walk through classrooms and record what they see. The team that walks the classrooms collaborate on what was seen and what next steps should be initiated to support classrooms or to continue the great things seen. In this walk we saw:
  • Teachers using district aligned materials/resources (Science, Arts, ELA, Math)
  • All teachers were on pace with the curriculum timelines and were using district aligned materials/resources (Arts, Math, Science, ELA)
  • High student compliance and genuine engagement
  • Interactive notebooks in use in several curriculum areas (Math, Science, ELA)
  • Small groups in place in many classes (ESE/Self Contained, Math)
  • All adults working with and supporting students (ESE/Self Contained)
  • Data tracking (Math/Science/Leadership Binder/ELA)
  • Math manipulatives in use (Math, ESE/Self Contained)
We are seeing great things at this point in the year, and we will continue to build upon what was seen.
